Bunions are bony bumps caused by abnormal growth of the inner portion of the joint at the base of the big toe. Women are highly prone to bunions than men. Studies concluded that wearing high heels and tight shoes may lead to formation of bunions. These may cause extreme pain while walking. There are some natural ways by which you can reduce these bony bumps.
Olive Oil Massage: Massage your toe with warm olive oil and get quick relief from pain. The massage increase circulation and blood flow. Repeat this remedy twice a day for 10-15 minutes.
Ice therapy: Ice therapy is good option to relief pain and inflammation. The cold temperature provides instant relief. Put crushed ice in a piece of towel and place it over infected area for 10-15 minutes. Repeat this procedure 2-3 times a day and get bunions free within few days.
Castor Oil: Castor oil is enriched with anti-inflammatory properties and help to reducing swelling around bunion areas. Dip a cotton cloth in castor oil and wrap around infected areas. Repeat 3 times a day till the pain reduces.
Epsom salt: Epsom salt is enriched in magnesium content and is helpful to inflammation and pain. Mix half cop of Epsom salt into small bucket of warm water. Soak your foot for 15-20 minutes and get relief from pain. This is also used to reduce the size of bunions.
Turmeric: Turmeric has pain blocking ability and help to reduce swelling.
- Make a paste of olive oil and half teaspoon of turmeric powder. Apply it directly on your bunion. For several days repeat 2 or 3 times daily
- Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of milk or lukewarm water and drink it twice daily.
Foot Exercise: Daily foot exercise helps to strengthen muscles and reduce pain. Try some small foot exercise with the help of chair.
Aspirin: Aspirin is used to get relief from headache and this is also helpful to reduce bunions pain. Dissolve 2 aspirin tablets in a bucket of warm water. Dip your foot for at least 20-30 minutes. Dry your foot and massage with warm olive oil. Repeat this remedy twice a day.
Proper footwear: Wearing comfortable footwear is very necessary. Avoid wearing tight shoes and high heels. Also avoid wearing tight stockings or socks. So always pay attention to your footwear.
